Position: Prep Cook/Driver Location: Colorado Springs, CO

About the Role The Prep Cook/Driver is essential to our Nutrition and Food Pantry programs. This role involves preparing nutritious meals, ensuring food safety, and delivering meals and supplies to older adults in our community. This position follows and upholds the requirements of Title III-C of the Older Americans Act and Volume 10 of the Older Coloradans Act to provide excellent care and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with food preparation, packaging, and kitchen tasks.
  • Maintain food safety and quality standards.
  • Load, unload, and deliver food and supplies to designated locations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational guidelines.
  • Support kitchen, warehouse, and delivery operations, as well as special events.
Essential Duties
  • Wash, peel, chop, and prepare food ingredients for meal production.
  • Prepare sauces, side dishes, and assist in cleaning kitchen surfaces.
  • Record food temperatures and monitor food loss in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Inspect the quality of raw, cooked, and delivered food to meet organizational standards.
  • Safely load, unload, and organize food and supplies in designated areas.
  • Deliver food and supplies while maintaining accurate records and reporting discrepancies.
  • Collect and manage donation boxes, rosters, and other deliverables securely.
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, vehicles, and work areas to meet safety and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community members to ensure effective meal and supply delivery.
  • Assist in special events by helping with set-up and clean-up.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the kitchen, warehouse, and delivery operations.

Driving Responsibilities
  • Drive on behalf of Silver Key Senior Services.
  • Maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and minimum automotive liability insurance.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local traffic laws.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of any Silver Key vehicles used for work duties.
Employment Standards

  • Candidates must pass a Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) background check.

Qualifications Required:
  • Willingness to drive a box truck (CDL license is NOT required).
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to lift, organize, and handle large quantities of food.
  • Effective communication skills and teamwork.
  • Clean driving record.
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of food handling, storage, and safety standards (e.g., ServSafe certification).
  • Experience with inventory systems like FIFO for managing stock levels.
  • Cooking experience.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Requires standing, walking, and occasional sitting for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Operation of kitchen equipment and work in environments with varying temperatures such as freezers, walk-in coolers, and outdoor areas.
  • The work environment includes moderate noise levels typical of a busy kitchen and warehouse.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENT
• Must pass drug test and background check prior to hire and periodically during employment as determined by organization standards as well as State and Federal contracting requirements
