Job Overview Under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager, you will play a key role in meal preparation, production, and packaging to meet food service commitments. You'll work collaboratively with the North Sarah Food Hub fulfillment team and partner organizations to ensure food quality, consistency, and timeliness.
This full-time position (35-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, with extended hours as needed) provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to an impactful culinary operation.
Key Responsibilities - Assist with high-volume meal preparation and packaging to meet deadlines and food service requirements.
- Prepare ingredients by cutting, chopping, mixing, and making sauces.
- Cook food items using grilling, frying, sautéing, and other cooking techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring adherence to food safety and ServSafe sanitation guidelines.
- Ensure proper temperature control, labeling, and storage procedures.
- Prepare both plant-based and meat-based menu items using kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, and grills.
- Follow standard portion sizes and recipe specifications to maintain quality and consistency.
- Maintain sanitary kitchen conditions, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assist with kitchen opening and closing duties following checklist procedures.
- Occasionally participate in off-site catering or community events related to our mission.
- Attend team meetings and contribute ideas to improve our operations.
Qualifications We need someone who is detail-oriented, efficient, and thrives in a team-oriented environment.
Education & Experience - High school diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years of kitchen experience (or equivalent training).
- Familiarity with industry best practices is a plus.
Certifications - ServSafe Food Handler Certification (Required).
- Hepatitis A vaccination (Required).
- Culinary Arts Certificate (Preferred but not required).
Skills & Abilities - Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to follow directions and execute tasks efficiently.
- Team player with strong communication skills.
- Accuracy and speed in food preparation.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
