Title: Precollegiate Coach Agency: Danville Community College Location: Danville - 590 FLSA: Nonexempt Hiring Range: $20 - $25 per hour Full Time or Part Time: Part Time Additional Detail Job Description: Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered. Provide direct support, advise and engage currently enrolled dual and concurrently enrolled students including Early College. Maintain an assigned caseload of Early College students throughout the academic year by employing intrusive coaching strategies and responding the alerts/cases using Navigate Alert. Provide workshops, events, and services to promote academic success and successful career/college transition. Collect, maintain, and report student and program data. Other duties as assigned in relation to the Early College program. Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work with secondary level students, their parents, and school officials. Knowledge of academic and career planning. Knowledge of post-secondary onboarding and enrollment processes. Knowledge of transfer application processes. Proficient in use of technology, including Microsoft Office. Work effectively in an office environment. Demonstrated customer service and organizational skills. Effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team. Relevant work experience. Ability to communicate with a diverse community of faculty, staff and students. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in using a variety of computer software including Google Applications, Navigate, Student Information System. Work experience in an educational setting in academic advising, counseling, coaching or another strongly related role. Knowledge of barriers to educational success and experience with providing accessibility to help students reach their educational goals.
