Job Purpose:

The Pre-Owned Truck Manager, reporting to the Director of Used Truck Operations, will co-lead the pre-owned truck sales department, focusing on strategic purchasing and wholesale operations. This role requires strong negotiation and leadership skills, and an understanding of the heavy-duty truck industry. The successful candidate will drive sales, manage inventory, and develop strong relationships with vendors and wholesale buyers in order to maximize profitability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Acquisition & Inventory Management

Identify Opportunities:
  • Develop and execute a purchasing strategy to acquire pre-owned heavy-duty trucks at competitive prices from various sources, including manufacturers, auctions, dealer networks, private sellers, and fleets. Develop and maintain wholesale networks.
Market Analysis:
  • Stay abreast of market trends, pricing, and demand in the pre-owned vehicle market. Monitor auctions, online marketplaces, and industry publications to identify acquisition opportunities. Analyze market data to forecast future needs and optimize purchasing strategies.
Sourcing and Evaluate Vehicles:
  • Identify and evaluate potential sources. Conduct thorough inspections and assessments to ensure the vehicles meet quality standards and represent good value.
Negotiation & Purchasing:
  • Negotiate favorable pricing and terms for vehicle acquisitions. Make informed decisions based on market analysis and vehicle evaluations. Consider profitability, demand, and inventory requirements when making acquisition decisions.
Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, wholesalers, and other industry contacts. Attend industry events and trade shows to network and stay informed about market trends.
Inventory Management:
  • Collaborate with the pre-owned management team to coordinate the acquisition, storage, distribution and timely disposal of pre-owned vehicles. Optimize inventory levels to meet customer demand and maximize profitability. Forecast future inventory needs.
Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations for all vehicle purchases. Provide management with regular analytical reports on acquisition and wholesale activities.
Sales & Customer Relationship:

Sales Leadership:
  • Collaborate with other Pre-Owned management to drive pre-owned truck sales by developing and implementing sales strategies and tactics.
Customer Service:
  • Provide exceptional customer service and build strong relationships with retail and wholesale customers.
  • Sales & Profitability Analysis:
  • Analyze sales performance and purchasing data to identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiencies.
Marketing & Advertising:
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute effective marketing and advertising campaigns.
Inventory Management:
  • Collaborate with the Pre-Owned Coordinator and Inventory Supervisor to guarantee precise unit specifications, pictures, and front row readiness of inventory.
Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Adapt to the evolving needs of the organization and undertake additional responsibilities as required, reflecting our commitment to flexibility and responsiveness in meeting business objectives.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years' experience in heavy-duty truck sales or purchasing with a proven track record
  • Established network of contacts in the industry
  • In-depth knowledge of the heavy-duty market, including trends, pricing, and demand
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a sales team
  • Ability to evaluate heavy-duty trucks' condition and value
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to multitask and re-prioritize
  • Analytical skills
  • CDL or ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire
  • Valid driver's license
  • 50-70% travel with occasional overnight stays
