Description
JOB SUMMARYResponsible for performing job duties accurately and efficiently according to established policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Obtain a thorough medical history through interview of patient/family members with pertinent information documented and communicated to the physician of record.
- Recognize health threatening changes in vital signs, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies, and respond appropriately including documentation and notification of physician of record.
- Assist in developing and implementing ASC goals.
- Detect early signs and symptoms of pre-operative complications and report observations promptly to physician of record and document accordingly.
- Carry out physician orders accurately and questions unclear orders.
- Administer medications and parenteral therapy according to ASC Nursing policies.
- Initiate and carry out appropriate emergency procedures with proper documentation.
- Initiate nurse-physician communication as appropriate.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and quiet environment for patients as well as other personnel.
- Provide pre-operative, post-operative teaching to patients, family/significant other with proper documentation.
- Participate in reviewing and revising quality assurance criteria and/or standards of care.
- Serve as a preceptor in orientation of new employees.
- Assist in maintenance, care, and cleanliness of supplies/equipment. Cost effectively maintain adequate supplies and equipment in appropriate working conditions with proper documentation.
- Report damaged equipment to Pre-op Charge Nurse.
- Assist with the change process involved with the implementation of new forms within the department.
- Accept the responsibility when designated as Charge Nurse.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Must be licensed by the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse (RN) and maintain licensure prior to hire and/or transfer and throughout employment in an RN position.
- Must hold and maintain ACLS/BLS/PALS certification within 30 days of employment.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a pre-operative setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Display customer services skills, strong interpersonal skills, close attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Be a person of integrity and character, willing to embrace change and make a positive impact in the lives of patients and co-workers.
- Ability to work with staff members at all levels of the organization in a cooperative, team-oriented manner.
- Ability to work in close proximity with co-workers and maintain a professional attitude.
- Displays computer proficiency (i.e. PC windows and MS Office environment) and ability to quickly learn new applications.
- Proficient in use of English language both in written and verbal communication.
- Must be able to communicate with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
- Displays ability of giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

- Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
- Ability to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for extended periods of time.
