Job Description

  • Develop operations models from the Network Model Management System (NMMS).
  • Collaborate with the Network Data Support Working Group (NDSWG) on operational model data exchange and transmission network model maintenance in NMMS.
  • Work with the Steady State Working Group (SSWG) to develop steady-state and geomagnetic disturbance models using Model On Demand (MOD) and PSS/E.
  • Collaborate with the System Protection Working Group (SPWG) to develop short circuit models using ASPEN Oneliner.
  • Coordinate the model and contingency building processes for SSWG and SPWG, ensuring Transmission Service Providers (TSPs) submit data, validate data submissions, resolve modeling issues, perform generation modeling and dispatching, and produce data products for planning models.
  • Work with SPWG and SSWG on data exchange methods and transmission network model maintenance methodologies.
  • Review generator and transmission equipment data submitted by resource entities, working with them to correct invalid model data.
  • Model transmission generation sites and distributed generation resources in the planning models using PSS/E and ASPEN.
  • Maintain and develop generation modeling tools written in Java and Python.
  • Manage the transmission system model software infrastructure and develop tools to assist in managing transmission models, including database infrastructure, model data exchange interfaces, and data export formats.
  • Develop and maintain modeling software tools in Java to validate transmission network data submissions using electrical engineering principles, performing data comparison and validity checks.
  • Develop rules to validate data submissions in operations and planning models using SQL.
  • Manage projects to upgrade the NMMS and MOD applications to implement new functionality, review system patches, and assist in administering servers.
  • Provide training and mentoring to members of the Engineering Development Program (EDP).
  • Collaborate with Network Model Maintenance, Network Model Coordination, Resource Integration, System Operations, System Planning, Forward Markets, Client Services, and Grid Applications Development.
  • Review, draft, and present changes to Protocols, Guides, procedures, and training material for EDP and Market Participants (MPs).
  • Assess changes to NERC standards to determine if changes to modeling methodologies are needed.

Job Skills Required

  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or a similar role, beyond the educational requirements.
  • Experience within the electric utility industry is preferred.
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Python, Java, C ) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with at least one power system simulator (PowerWorld, PSS/E, ASPEN Oneliner) or equivalent.
  • Experience with SQL is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with software tools like Git/BitBucket and Jira is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in these fields.

Additional Requirements

  • On-site work required at least twice per week in Taylor, TX, or more based on business needs.
  • Work arrangements are subject to change based on business needs.
