Job Summary The Power Systems Engineer will provide engineering analysis and technical support to ensure the reliable interconnection of new generation resources to the Client system. This position is essential for maintaining compliance with NERC Standards, Client Protocols, and Planning and Market Guides. The engineer will focus on power system modeling, load flow studies, interconnection feasibility, and continuous system performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities - Analyze transmission and generation element parameters for transmission network modeling.
- Perform power flow studies to evaluate the feasibility of proposed generation interconnections.
- Support the interconnection process by conducting system simulations and evaluating study results for compliance with applicable standards.
- Develop, maintain, and improve reports and tools related to compliance with Client Protocols and Guides.
- Compare simulation results with actual operating data to verify model accuracy.
- Communicate technical requirements and study findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Client Services and System Planning teams for system development and project implementation.
- Review and enhance modeling methods and data validation procedures.
Required Qualifications Education: - BachelorĂ¢â‚¬ s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Levels: - Entry Level: Less than 1 year of relevant experience beyond degree requirements
- Level 2: Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in the electric utility industry, particularly in system planning or interconnection.
- Familiarity with PSSE for power system load flow studies.
- Experience conducting transfer analysis or similar system planning studies.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical information in written and verbal form.
- Proficiency in Python, VBA, or another programming language.
- Experience creating queries in Access, Oracle, or SQL databases.
- Familiarity with TARA (Transmission Adequacy and Reliability Assessment) tools.
Certifications (if any) - No certifications required, though a PE (Professional Engineer) license is advantageous.
