We are seeking a Power System Engineer who provides software support for LCRA TSC's real-time controls environments including the Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Substation Wide Area Network (SUBWAN), associated ancillary systems and servers in areas such as design, development, user administration, configuration, deployment, installation, tuning, monitoring, maintenance and updating the systems. You will participate in handling incidents, problems and anomalies including recognition, analysis and resolution. Our team works in a NERC, FERC and ERCOT Reliability standards environment including Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards. All our processes used in this team are very well detailed, maintained and referred to during training and on job responsibilities.

You will be trusted to:

- Submit model changes to ERCOT in a timely manner and update our EMS with the same model by studying Initial One line, focusing on outages and the execution of these multi million dollar capital projects.
- Capable to run state estimator, studies and contingency analysis on various outages, and take an informative decision to avoid violations on the electrical grid.
- Provide technical expertise and support on EMS/SCADA application features and functionality. We work very closely with Software, SCADA, Operation Engineers, Operator Instructors to tackle and resolve operational issues. We do have to work with different vendors for upgrades and routine maintenance.
- Manage PMU configuration and maintenance.
- Configure and set up limits, ratings, and calculated points in EMS consistent with Transmission Engineering and Transmission Operations and EMS Technical Support's methodologies.
- Provide data from EMS database by writing basic SQL queries. Develop custom scripts to help with administration and maintenance of EMS applications and servers.

You qualify with:

- Bachelors degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science plus one or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job.
- Driver's license

You are a great fit with:

- Knowledge of EMS/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications or prior work experience in a critical or controls environment. Experience working in State Estimation, Contingency Analysis, and Power Flow Studies.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering focusing on Power Systems.
- Experience updating databases and writing SQL queries to extract data
- Knowledge of substation field devices (RTUs), electrical equipment at substations (e.g. breakers, bus, switch, line, etc.), standard software application development methods and relational databases, Web services and Service Oriented Architectures, UNIX shell scripting, shell and/or Windows-based programming.
- Skill in debugging programs, interpreting users' needs and developing solutions to solve users' problems, programming using Java, C, C , Python and PL/SQL programming
- Hands-on knowledge of firewalls, switches and routers
- Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP and associated routing and switching protocols
