Our Electrical Power & Cooling Engineers are essential for maintaining BT's networks 24/7, 365 days a year. Using their expertise in Low and High Voltage systems, generators, emergency lighting, cooling, alarms, and UPS, they ensure the BT estate remains operational under all circumstances.
They work within our exchange buildings, radio sites, rooftops, and outdoor environments, supporting electrical power systems and cooling equipment to keep the UK's internet running. They are vital in meeting strict SLAs, taking ownership of their patches, and coaching colleagues.
A comprehensive technical training pathway is provided, covering maintenance activities through face-to-face, virtual, internal, and external methods, which may involve overnight stays and travel.
The role requires contributing to out-of-hours callouts via a Formal On Call Framework, typically a 1 in 4 rotation, supporting 24x7 service. A full UK manual driver's license is required.
Key Purpose of the Role
As part of Network Engineering, you will lead by example, sharing knowledge and supporting new team members, embodying BT values. You will uphold these values and be an integral part of the wider team.
Key Decisions:
- Identify and report HSE/Compliance/Design issues to support teams.
- Own designated patches and sites to meet objectives.
- Share best practices and support colleagues in adopting new ideas and technologies.
- Manage critical network repair, provision, and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate work with patch managers and senior colleagues.
- Conduct risk assessments for health and safety.
- Report issues and risks to senior staff to facilitate change.
- Proactively develop personal skills to support team needs.
- Suggest process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with health surveillance and dress code requirements.
What You'll Bring
Must meet physical requirements such as bending, stretching, kneeling, crouching, climbing, working at various heights, lifting heavy objects, and recognizing colored wiring.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Electrical competency City & Guilds 2360 parts 1+2 or equivalent NVQ or industry qualification.
- BTEC Electrical Engineering Level 3/HNC/HND/MOET Level 3/ET Level 3 or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- 18th Edition Regulations or current electrical regulations.
- Experience with Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
- HVAC Refrigeration C&G/NVQ Level 3.
- F-GAS Category 1 certification.
- Experience repairing and maintaining air conditioning split systems.
- Experience working with DC power systems.
- Coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
- Full UK manual driving license.
