Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Power BI Lead/Architect to join our growing team. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement sophisticated Power BI solutions for our energy sector clients. You will serve as the technical authority on Power BI projects, providing guidance to team members and translating complex business requirements into actionable data visualizations and insights.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise-scale Power BI solutions for energy sector clients, including data warehouse integration and multi-source data connections
  • Architect complex data models using star and snowflake schemas, implementing proper relationship cardinality, and optimizing for performance and usability
  • Create and maintain sophisticated data models, relationships, measures, and calculated columns using advanced DAX functions and Power Query transformations
  • Develop row-level security models and implement proper data governance controls to ensure compliance with client data security requirements
  • Design and implement incremental refresh policies and composite models to optimize performance for large datasets
  • Develop compelling dashboards and reports with interactive visualizations, drill-through capabilities, and actionable insights tailored to different user personas
  • Implement Power BI deployment pipelines across development, test, and production environments with proper version control integration
  • Configure and manage Power BI gateways for secure on-premises data access and scheduled refresh
  • Establish best practices, governance frameworks, standards, and documentation for Power BI implementation across the organization
  • Create reusable components, custom visuals, and templates to accelerate development and ensure consistency
  • Mentor junior team members on Power BI development techniques, advanced DAX concepts, and optimal data modeling methodologies
  • Lead client workshops to gather requirements and provide technical demonstrations of Power BI capabilities
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to understand complex business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions with appropriate KPIs
  • Ensure data quality, security, and performance optimization in all Power BI deliverables through rigorous testing and validation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance issues through query optimization, data model refinement, and DAX improvements
  • Stay current with Power BI platform updates, industry trends, and Microsoft's Power Platform roadmap
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and thought leadership in business intelligence and data visualization

Qualifications:

Required

  • 7+ years of experience with Power BI, including architecture, development, and implementation
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and best practices
  • Advanced proficiency in DAX, M, and Power Query
  • Experience with the Power Platform ecosystem (Power Apps, Power Automate)
  • Familiarity with Azure data services (Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory)
  • Experience in the energy sector strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Work Location

This position requires onsite presence at client locations and/or our San Francisco office up to 2 days per week. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance of the San Francisco Bay Area. This position is hybrid (partial remote/partial onsite) and is not eligible for full remote work.

Compensation

As required by California law, the base salary range for this position in San Francisco is $115,000 to $175,000. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
