Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Powder Coating Supervisor to lead our powder coating operations within a metal fabrication environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Gema and Nordson Cyclone powder coating booths and a strong background in finishing fabricated steel. This role is essential to ensure high-quality finishes, meeting tight production schedules, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily operations of Gema and Nordson Cyclone powder coating booths.
- Oversee the preparation, coating, and curing of fabricated large steel parts.
- Ensure all powder coating processes meet quality specifications, including proper film build, adhesion, and appearance.
- Lead a team of powder coating technicians and helpers, providing training, direction, and performance feedback.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to powder application, booth performance, and part quality.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the coating area, including booth changeovers and powder recovery systems.
- Manage inventory of powders, hooks, cleaning chemicals, and booth supplies.
- Collaborate with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams to ensure proper part flow and minimize rework.
- Keep accurate production records and quality assurance documentation.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of coating equipment and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of powder coating experience in a metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing setting.
- Direct experience with Gema and Nordson Cyclone booths is required.
- Solid understanding of electrostatic powder application techniques, pretreatment processes (e.g., phosphate wash), and curing ovens.
- Proven leadership ability, with experience managing a small to mid-sized team.
- Knowledge of metal types, weld prep, surface finishing, and part masking.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, work orders, and finish specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
- Forklift certification and ability to move large, fabricated parts safely is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or 5S workplace organization.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required.
Work Environment:
- Industrial metal shop environment with exposure to powder, high temperatures (ovens), and machinery.
- You must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work on your feet for extended periods.
