Industry Post-Doctoral Research Position - Protein Expression & Purification in Salt Lake City, UT

We are seeking a talented and motivated Post-Doctoral Scientist in protein biochemistry to support heparin manufacturing research. The Post-Doctoral Researcher-Protein Expression & Purification will be an integral part of the Bioparin team, contributing to our success by demonstrating expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of protein purification and characterization. Principal responsibilities are: experimental design, molecular cloning, transfection, genetic engineering, conduct large scale production of cell lines & analysis experiments, maintenance of detailed records, and generation of standard operating procedures. We are looking for a scientist with a strong track record of productivity, teamwork, analytical competence, and experimental decision making.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research work such as protein expression, purification, and analysis in the laboratory
- Provide fit-for-purpose proteins and glycans as potential drug candidates for cardiovascular diseases.
- Guide and direct recombinant protein production in a variety of systems including bacterial, yeast, insect, and mammalian cells
- Design and troubleshoot protein purification workflows using chromatographic methods (AKTA, Bio-Rad and Waters systems)
- Develop a wide range of biochemical, biophysical, and biological assays
- Actively contribute to project teams and work effectively to help advance programs
- Train and lead junior researchers to complete research projects
- Perform large-scale (up to 100 L) expression of recombinant proteins, glycans, and virus-like particles (VLPs) using various cell lines.
- Operate and maintain cell culture analyzers, including the BioProfile FLEX analyzer, to monitor cell culture health and productivity
- Conduct protein characterization using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis, and UV-VIS spectroscopy
- Participate in team meetings and present findings to colleagues and management
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations in the laboratory environment
- Writing SOPs, research proposals, and technical reports
Qualifications
- PhD degree with hands-on experience in protein biochemistry / genetic engineering of mammalian and yeast cells with at least three first author publications in the last 3 years.
- Strong experience with cloning, cell culture, recombinant protein purification, and protein analysis
- Extensive experience with protein production and purification system (AKTA, BioRad, GE)
- Ability to engineer various cell lines including mammalian human cell lines.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, be highly self-motivated, as well as work in a collaborative work environment
- Proved record (such as publications) of managing challenging projects and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and writing skills; experience on handling client projects is preferred
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
