Summary The Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PBRNR) Program Director is essential to the Post Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program (PBNR) implementation, sustainment and outcomes at the Fayetteville NC VA Medical Center. The overall goal of the VA Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency program and responsibility of the PBRNR Program director, is to provide a structured learning environment that facilitates new graduate transition from novice to competent Registered Nurses (RN). Responsibilities The Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care provides health care services to approximately 80,000 Veterans in a 19-county area of southeastern North Carolina. Our facilities include the Fayetteville VA Medical Center, two health care centers-one in Fayetteville and one in Wilmington, 9 outpatient clinics. The Residency Director is responsible for the administration of the Registered Nurse Residency Programs at the (FNCVAMC).The intent of the program is to successfully transition new nurses from entry level, advanced beginner nurse to competent professional nurse who provides safe quality care, develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance, develop strategies to incorporate research-based and other evidence into practice, develop clinical leadership skills at the point of patient care, and to formulate an individual career plan for new nurses that promotes a life-long commitment to professional nursing.Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Have a solid working knowledge of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Standards for accreditation and become proficient within 6 months of employment and a content expert after a year in the role. Responsibility of the leadership, oversite and coordination of the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care Systems Nurse Residency Program, RNs inthe RN Residency role and their respective schedules. Exhibits leadership in professional nursing by serving on committees, participating in interdisciplinary collaboration, providing direct supervision to the RNs in their first RN role, mentorship to professional Nurses, student Nurses and Nurse residents and contribute to his/her own self development. duties include, but are not limited to : Assessment, planning, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the program and program curricula; development. implementation , coordination of learning resources Monitoring of participant progress; support for faculty/preceptor and staff development Participation in selection and evaluation of residents, faculty and preceptors. Maintenance of academic program records and the completion of reports of theprogram's accomplishments as directed per OAA or otherwise; collaboration with keystake holders, disciplines and departments, internal and external to the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care Systems Direct supervision of RNs in the RN Residency role, and preparation of the logistics,documents, resources and staff preparation for CCNE accreditation and sustainment Serves on committees, participates in interdisciplinary collaboration, and provides direct supervision to the RNs in their first RN role and mentorship to professional Nurses, student Nurses and Nurse residents and contribute to his/her own selfdevelopment. Uses an analytical framework to create an environment that facilitates learning. Uses advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote resident involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. Uses professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluateprogram activities. Leads hiring or selection of academic faculty and/or preceptors. Ensures appropriate orientation, education and continuing professional development to improve Nurse Resident performance and strengthen career choice. Manages schedules and placement of Residents . Participates in recruitment and selection of resident applicants. Evaluates curriculum options and direct patient care rotation placement options available and selects a course of action which will result in the most favorable learner or organizational outcomes. Submits list of resident training requirements and costs for next Fiscal Year that will require use of Nursing or Education funds prior to budget request deadline. Works closely with Nurse Educator colleagues to develop, standardize, and administer the NR program and is responsible to have a working knowledge of all active programs and the flexibility to travel to all FNC sites to deliver education and training to Nurse Managers, preceptors, residents, and staff, provide advice and assistance in thei first year of professional Nursing assigned. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.) NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.
