The Portfolio Manager Lead-Asset-Based Lending (ABL) is responsible for overseeing a team of Portfolio Managers supporting the bank's asset-based lending portfolio. This leader will ensure sound credit risk management practices while driving efficiency, client engagement, and portfolio growth. They will collaborate closely with Business Development Officers, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and senior leadership to structure, underwrite, and manage complex ABL transactions. The role requires deep expertise in asset-based lending, risk assessment, and portfolio management, along with strong leadership and communication skills to mentor and develop a high-performing team. Credit Risk Management & Underwriting
Lead the structuring, underwriting, and credit analysis of ABL transactions, ensuring adherence to bank credit policies and regulatory standards.
Oversee financial statement analysis, collateral evaluation, and risk rating assessments to support credit decisions.
Partner with Credit Risk and Relationship Managers to negotiate loan terms, pricing, and covenants.
Portfolio Oversight & Performance Monitoring
Maintain oversight of the asset-based lending portfolio, ensuring proactive risk management and compliance with bank policies.
Monitor financial and operational performance of borrowers, identifying early warning signs of credit deterioration and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
Guide the team in performing periodic credit reviews, covenant compliance monitoring, and borrowing base analyses.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Portfolio Managers, fostering a high-performance culture with a focus on technical expertise, efficiency, and collaboration.
Provide training on ABL credit structures, risk management best practices, and emerging industry trends.
Ensure consistency in underwriting and portfolio management processes across the team.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a strategic partner to Business Development Officers, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and senior leadership in driving portfolio growth and maintaining strong client relationships.
Participate in credit committee discussions, advocating for well-structured ABL transactions and portfolio strategies.
Engage with external stakeholders, including legal counsel, auditors, and industry partners, as needed.
Uses independent judgement and discretion to make decisions about the portfolio and team leadership.
Analyzes and resolves problems pertaining to the ABL portfolio and team leadership.
Responsible for talent management functions including: employment, performance evaluations, staff development/training, disciplinary actions, succession planning and ensuring all staff comply with compliance requirements.
Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Job Requirements:
Minimum experience required: 10+ Years asset-based lending experience, with a focus on underwriting and portfolio management.
5+ years of leadership experience, managing teams of Portfolio Managers or Credit Analysts.
Strong track record of managing complex ABL transactions and portfolios.
Education level preferred: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) MBA or CFA preferred.
