The Aquatic Manager(s) are responsible for all operations relating to the utilization and use of LMU Burns Recreation Center's Aquatic Facility. Promote the safety, convenience, and enjoyment of users. Typical roles of the Aquatic Managers include participating in the development of programs, daily and monthly pool programs. Leading various aquatic activities and maintenance.
The Aquatic Managers Assist with the hiring, training, testing, and certification of staff and student employees of the facility. Assist with develop and implement various aquatic programs. Ensure that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained. Duties are performed as expected. Report and communicate every detail with the Aquatic Supervisor.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Aquatics, this position is the lead for day-to-day operations relating to the utilization and use of LMU Burns Recreation Center's Aquatic Facility. Promote the safety, convenience, and enjoyment of users. The Aquatic Pool Manager will participate in the development of programs, daily and monthly pool programs. Leading various aquatic activities and maintenance.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Aquatics, the Aquatic Pool Manager will assist with the hiring, training, testing, and certification of temporary staff and student employees of the facility; assist with the development and implementation of various aquatic programs; and ensure that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained and communicate every detail with the Aquatic Supervisor. Must be available to work a minimum of 30 hours per week including weekends and holidays.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Cover shifts when needed and no one else is available.
  • Ensure the work schedule aligns with the Athletic Schedule and activities each day and hour.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring temporary staff.
  • Partner with the Assistant Director of Aquatics to manage swim lessons, swim instructors, communicate with parents, and respond to patrons' emails and requests.
  • Assist with regular in-services and lifeguard training sessions.
  • Ensure all lifeguards are certified and up-to-date with American Red Cross standards.
  • Create weekly shift schedule through When to Work, ensuring all the shifts are covered.
  • Communicate with lifeguards and head lifeguards regarding availability, issues or sickness that may arise.
  • Assist in creating and executing the pool schedules, lap swimming schedules, and team training schedules.
  • Attend all monthly meetings with coaches to review upcoming monthly training and game schedules.
  • Communicate with outside groups booking the pool and collect their upcoming monthly schedule.
  • Publish the monthly pool schedule on Fusion before the first of the month.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Aquatics, provide work direction of head lifeguards and lifeguards to ensure proper protocols are being followed.
  • Keep the lifeguard office and pool deck organized and clean.
  • Update the pool schedules in guard office.
  • Update the roster in guard office.
  • Update whiteboard calendar in the guard office.
  • Ensure all equipment is meeting standards of pool facility, all rescue equipment is ready to use.
  • Communicate with Pool Maintenance and Aquatic Supervisor to complete any necessary pool maintenance immediately.
  • Attend the weekly meeting with the Aquatic Supervisor.
  • Create an inventory list for ordering necessary pool equipment.
  • Represent the LMU Campus Recreation department in and around the pool area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested

Requisite Qualifications
  • Typically, a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instruction Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience of managing an aquatic facility with swim lessons or 1 summer managing the pool with Swim camps.
  • Ability to multi-task and be able to handle a fast paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to serve as a role model for student employees.
  • Knowledge of water hazards, pool safety, lifesaving techniques and first aid; principles and techniques of swimming and lifesaving; and appropriate safety precautions and procedures
