Position OverviewThis position will entail lab work associated with the biodiesel initiative to include the production and testing of fuels and delivery of fuel to customers.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels . However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).
Job DescriptionThe duties will include but are not limited to:
30% Assisting in production of biodiesel from used cooking oil,
30% Testing of fuel properties according to ASTM procedures,
30% Outreach with the University and community,
10% Working with the logistics manager to coordinate oil pickup and fuel delivery.

Required QualificationsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or
  • be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or
  • be enrolled in summer session or
  • be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be for undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  • At least sophomore-level standing at KU.
  • Good communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
  • At least 2 years of MS office experience as evidenced by experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year prior experience with alternative fuels
  • 6 months' prior laboratory experience

    APPLICATION DEADLINE: This is a POOL position to hire multiple CPE Lab Assistants. Applications are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year (fall 2024 and spring 2025) and positions are filled as needed. Only one application is needed per academic year.
