Job Announcement

Under supervision, performs responsible specialized administrative tasks pertaining to police communications and facility security duties in such work environments as police headquarters offices and police district stations; and performs related work as required. Employees will be assigned to either a midnight or daywork squad, with 12-hour shifts and rotating days each pay period.

Note: Vacancies to fill multiple positions at Mount Vernon District Station.
Illustrative Duties

•  On a rotating shift basis, processes warrants, verifies data for requesting and prepares supplements to warrants;
•  Contacts police departments, local and out-of-state, concerning outstanding warrants;
•  Responds to front desk inquires by retrieving case records, etc., in an expeditious manner;
•  Maintains security and safety of station and property or evidence received;
•  Maintains record of runaways, juvenile detention papers, and escape warrants from mental institutions;
•  Responds to telephone callers and walk-in clients at the police station;
•  Responds to Teletype messages from Public Safety Communications Center concerning complaints or incidents;
•  Distributes incoming correspondence to appropriate personnel;
•  Accesses, queries, and updates various automated information systems to obtain necessary data requested by law enforcement personnel;
•  Composes and completes routine correspondence, special reports and documents, including search warrants and affidavits. Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, two years of experience performing clerical and/or police communications work, including one year of experience equivalent to .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•  Experience working a law enforcement setting.
•  Experience in the use of Microsoft Office computer software, especially Word and Outlook. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
•  Driver's license (required)
•  VCIN -VA Criminal Information Network- Required within 12 months and recertify every 24 months NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check and polygraph exam to the satisfaction of the employer. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally sedentary, however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 15 lbs. in weight. Must be capable of sitting for extended periods of time, capable of hearing and seeing sufficiently to use office and computer equipment. Must possess the manual dexterity necessary to enter information through the use of a keyboard. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
