ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs landscaping duties to include, mowing, trimming, edging, weed eating, fertilizing, and spraying of recreation facilities. Performs daily, seasonal, and annual maintenance and upkeep of parks and playground facilities. Ensures that all playground equipment is kept up to NRPA guidelines and performs a monthly inspection. Performs daily tests to ensure DHEC standards are met for the Splash Pad at Central Creek Park. Performs maintenance duties to include electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry work. Operates heavy equipment. Repairs sprinkler systems. Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed. Observes all safety practices and maintains a safe work area. Serves as back up to co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent. 3 years' experience in facility maintenance, to include electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Any combination of education and experience totaling 5 years may be considered. CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire. CPSI (Playground Safety Inspector) license, preferred. CPO (Pool Operator) License, preferred. Valid South Carolina Driver's License, with a safe driving record. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of parks and playground maintenance. Knowledge of grounds and landscaping maintenance. Knowledge of safety practices involved in maintenance. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Ability to perform electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work. Ability to use hand tools, to include saw, hammer, screwdriver, wrench, voltmeter, and power tools. Ability to operate front end loader, backhoe, tractors, and lawnmowers. Ability to perform heavy lifting. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Constantly require hearing, vision, talking, carrying, handling, standing, and foot controls. Frequently requires fine dexterity, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, twisting, bending, climbing, crouching/stooping, balancing, and walking. Heavy strength demands exerting up to 20 pounds constantly, 20-50 pounds frequently, and may require exerting up to 100 pounds on rare occasions. MENTAL DEMANDS Constantly requires frequent change of tasks, working in noisy/distracting environments, and working closely with others as a part of a team. Frequently requires performing under time pressures. Occasionally requires performing multiple tasks simultaneously, tedious/exacting work, and irregular schedule/overtime. WORK ENVIRONMENT Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside and/or with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, and noise and vibration. Weekly exposure to respiratory and chemical hazards (e.g., gas fumes, pesticide chemicals, dust and dirt, etc.); and mechanical or physical hazards (e.g., high voltage power lines, dangerous machinery, falling tree branches, etc.). Monthly exposure to electrical hazards (e.g., ballfield lighting, irrigation system sensors/timers, etc.); and communicable diseases.
