PLATING AND COATINGS PROCESS ENGINEER

This is onsite position in Gallatin, TN. Monday to Friday.

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Plating and Coatings process engineer develops and improves processes and provides direction and assistance to his work group to meet assigned objectives. In this role the individual will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and solve manufacturing problems through immediate well-founded actions. This person will be the process expert that will define process parameters and procedures for the daily operations and maintenance of the processes. They will be involved in new equipment development and repair and replacement of existing equipment. They will work hand in hand with other engineering, quality and production functions to make sure processes are capable, cost competitive and sustainable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Develop, evaluate, and improve plating and coating manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of fixture design, state of the art painting and coating technologies and production equipment capabilities. This activity covers a variety of processes.
  • Produce manufacturing processes with the utmost integrity and adherence to Quality policy
  • Design and maintain concise Process Documentation to support manufacturing and quality processes
  • Support and meet development and production schedules, driving productivity, and quality initiatives, and manage the areas within budget guidelines and controls
  • Assist in determining the proper manufacturing processes for cleaning, surface preparation, racking, part curing/drying, and part handling to prevent damage.
  • Convey technical understanding to production personnel through work instructions, product knowledge, and hands-on training
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes for improvement of product flow, cost, and First Time Yield (FTY)
  • Analyze technical drawings and data and offer configuration changes to enhance product manufacturability
  • Initiate plans of action to troubleshoot and solve recurring problems within production

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assist cross-functional support teams consisting of Quality Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Buyer/Planners, Maintenance, and Manufacturing by the following:
  • Actively support and maintain a safe work environment
  • Support site initiatives for Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and productivity improvements
  • Provide direction, leadership, and technical support for production shop floor
  • Ensure production KPI's are maintained by providing Engineering support to reduce downtime and enhance production output
  • Assist in other projects as needed

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Work is performed in a group office/manufacturing environment.
  • Utilization of P.C. and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Interaction with Industrial Equipment and Raw Materials
  • Basic mechanical skills

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:
  • BSME/BSIE and at least 3 years of manufacturing experience in a technical role (or at least 6 years equivalent experience)
  • Expertise in industrial plating processes and management of chemicals and required chemistry
  • CEF certification or other plating process certifications
  • Lean/6 Sigma capability and practical experience, certification is a plus
  • Understanding of cleaning methods and chemicals involved
  • Understanding of the practical application of lean manufacturing in the fields of plating/painting/surface preparation, etc.
  • Ability to conceptualize production processes and process tooling that support safety, quality and productivity objectives
  • Ability to manage projects in a team environment
  • Ability to excel in a mid-volume / high mix production atmosphere
  • Experience in 3D CAD modeling. (NX software preferred, but not required)
  • Exposure to robotic processing and automation a plus.
