The Platform Engineer SRE role will report into the Program and Classified Services organization to design, maintain and implement Raytheon business wide orchestration and container management platforms based on Kubernetes to support program software, solutions, and products. The primary responsibilities include being a SME for Kubernetes and supporting the DevSecOps Ecosystem across the US on unclassified and closed area systems. Additional responsibilities include partnering within the team and across functions, engineering, and program teams and personnel to develop and prioritize new features and capabilities for standard container management products and services.

What you will do:
  • Configuration and integration of Kubernetes in both on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
  • Implementing infrastructure as code with CI/CD and pipelines in mind to generate and integrate with supported cloud infrastructures.
  • Integrating with cloud specific services as per the requirements with partners and designing redundancies and documentation to support healthy and recoverable operations.
  • Conduct incident response and root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues
  • Implement failover mechanisms and disaster recovery strategies
  • Perform capacity planning and scalability testing
  • Implement security best practices to ensure compliance to standards
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex production issues related to software and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to support projects and initiatives across multiple environments
  • Experience in Kubernetes operations, supporting tools, and developing automation and new capabilities
  • Implement monitoring tools and dashboards with best-practice alerts and response processes
  • Write and maintain automation scripts, tools, and internal services to improve reliability
  • Maintain clear documentation on runbooks, system architecture and best practices
  • Ensure systems meet defined Service Level objectives and Service Level Agreements
  • Design and implement high-availability architectures to minimize downtime
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a University degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Experience implementing automation through CI/CD pipelines with GitLab or Jenkins, and developing custom solutions using Python, Golang, or Bash
  • Experience with Linux/Unix system administration
  • Experience with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP)
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, etc) and logging systems (e.g., ELK stack, Splunk, etc)
  • Experience installing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting Kubernetes clusters in on-premises and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience working with Rancher RKE2, OpenShift Container Platform, VMWare Tanzu, and other leading Kubernetes platforms
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience designing and operating secure, high-performance systems, platforms, and Kubernetes clusters across bare metal, VMware, AWS GovCloud, and Azure for Government.
  • Experience deploying cloud-native platforms and applications in both classified and unclassified environments, including air-gapped and regulated networks.
  • Expertise with Kubernetes components (service mesh, service discovery, package management, observability, runtimes, and security) and GitOps tools like ArgoCD, Helm, and Kustomize.
  • Experience leading agile teams, delivering projects on time and within budget, and collaborating with product owners and scrum masters.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
