Position Information
New Hanover County is seeking a motivated professional to perform data analysis and planning support activities in the Planning and Land Use department. This position works as part of the operations division of the department.

Responsibilities for this role include:
  • Maintaining planning case record databases;
  • Assisting development review staff with staff reports; providing GIS technical support in coordination with Information Technology department staff.
  • Creating and maintaining GIS data, models, and maps.
  • Interpreting data and performing spatial analysis and other kinds of data analysis.
  • Preparing reports and presentations.
  • Maintaining address databases and assigning property addresses; and other related duties.
  • Performs planning support activities that involve providing technical assistance to staff and the general public, may assist with reviewing special use permits, re-zoning requests, and development activity applications, updating the department website, maintaining data applications, and coordinating GIS data and information through creating reports, processing data, and producing maps. It requires skills in various computer software applications, including GIS.

Hours:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with some night and weekend work for meetings or public outreach events. Must be available to work during emergency situations.


Compensation:
The hiring range for this position is$51,111 - $69,000 + a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. Please visit our careers site at for more information about our benefits.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, or a related field with major course work in GIS, computer science, or geography which included computer mapping coursework and one (1) year of experience in planning review, GIS mapping, zoning administration, building code compliance, or surveying; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid NC Driver's License
