Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner First Assist/LSA (Spine)

The primary role is to perform first assist duties in surgery. Confirm cases the evening before with the surgeon or facility. Meet the patient in the preoperative area, explain your involvement in the surgery, answer any questions, and obtain all company required documentation and consents. Communicate with the OR staff regarding surgeon preference and assist with patient positioning. Be willing to work with all OR and facility staff members with the goal of starting the surgery on time and decreasing case turnover time. Aid operating surgeon/facility staff with any pre-op preferences including but not limited to radiographic studies set-up, instrumentation set-up, and patient positioning Provide quality surgical assisting to the surgeon which includes but is not limited to: learn surgeon's preferences, learn surgeon's operative steps, anticipate next steps, problem solve any challenges, communicate clearly with the surgeon and OR staff throughout the surgery, adapt to surgeon's personality, and provide wound closure and dressings as instructed. Assist in transitioning patient to stretcher, escort the patient to PACU, provide sign out to the PACU staff, and check dressings/drains prior to departure. Maintain a high quality of clinical documentation and complete in a timely manner. Assist with any clinical/management projects for the betterment of your territory/team which may include but is not limited to education, power point presentations, cross training, and auditing. Willingness to expand current surgical expertise and learn how to assist on different specialties Education/Training: Must have excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office, and EMR Must be a graduate of an Accredited Master's Degree program for Physician Assistant Studies for PAs, or a Master/Doctoral Degree Program in Nurse Practitioner Studies for NPs. Nurse Practitioners must have their CNOR or RNFA. Must possess current state license where practicing and PAs must hold National Commissioned Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) At least one year of surgical experience required Preferred Skills: Able to perform all essential duties with or without accommodations, including but not limited to: Experience assisting in spine surgery (orthopedic or neuro) and orthopedic surgery Robotics experience (General, Gyn) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with ability to adapt to different personalities and needs. Customer service-oriented mindset. Able to function independently, autonomously, and confidently.
