Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician (I) provides technical support and assistance to pharmacists as permitted by state law to ensure all required medications are dispensed accurately and that appropriate documentation of dispensing is maintained.
Responsibilities:
1. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) including hazardous medications.
2. Delivers or exchanges medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
3. Documents pharmaceutical activities including filling of medications orders, quality control requirements etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
4. Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery, drug information, etc.
5. Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and provider orders.
6. Orders, receives, restocks and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
7. May assist with training of new teammates, educating them in job-specific functions.
8. Contributes to process improvement projects.
9. Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.
10. Adheres to controlled substance policies and all policies and procedures of the department.
11. Ensures necessary safety and quality control in the medication use system.
12. Is available and flexible to work varied schedules as required to ensure coverage for the area.

Education
High school diploma required or acceptance into pharmacy school.
Licensure/Certification
• Registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment.
Experience
Prior experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of drug names, medical terminology.
• Basic math skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver excellent customer service to teammates, patients, supervisors and providers.
• Attention to detail and a good work ethic.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new pharmacy software rapidly.
• Ability to tolerate latex products and exposure to hazardous drugs.
• Ability to stand or walk on uncarpeted floors and work in close conditions for duration of shift.
Valid NC Driver's License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
