General Summary of Position
We are actively recruiting for an experienced Pharmacist in Charge to help lead our outpatient/community pharmacy on the campus of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Responsible for evaluating drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects, pre-authorizations, etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions, ensuring accurate input, labeling, and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. Assumes full legal responsibility for the operation of the relevant pharmacy, including meeting all inspections and other requirements of the state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy operations. Provides day to day supervision of pharmacy operations, including assisting the operations managers with the performance management of the staff and problem resolution. Works in coordination with other managers and directors to achieve company-wide resource efficiencies and process improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or Doctoral degree in Pharmacy (Pharm D.) required
Experience
- 5-7 years Pharmacy experience in a retail setting required
Licenses and Certifications
- PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist - Current DC Pharmacist license, including Immunization required
- Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in DC required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong customer service skills, and basic computer skills required.
- Must be highly productive; organized; and comfortable engaging with patients, family members, and healthcare providers.
- Adept at building trust and relationships.
