DESCRIPTION:

The YMCA is currently taking applications for a Personal Trainer. The candidate is to aid in membership retention and growth by providing safe and effective exercise instruction in a one-on-one or small group setting; Answering members' exercise and health questions, while building relationships with members and helping to connect members to each other. Inform members of fitness challenges and member appreciation events and encouraging their participation. Assist members in achieving health and fitness goals by assessing exercise readiness, designing individual exercise programs, as well as demonstrating and recommending appropriate exercises for various needs and goals. Lead members through appointments and follow up with members after initial appointment. Ensure the safety of the fitness floor, enforcing rules and age guidelines for cardio and strength equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant should be a dynamic, highly motivating, and energetic relationship builder with strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be committed to the YMCA mission and dedicated to serving our members through our fitness programs; must be able to articulate the YMCA mission and core values to YMCA members and perspective members; must be able to demonstrate proper form, technique, and body alignment on all strength and cardiovascular machines; must be able to evaluate a constantly changing environment for safety and to ensure that members' needs are being met; must be well-organized, reliable, punctual, and professional; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly. Must be mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents and both physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and perform CPR and/or First Aid. Candidate must have a personal training accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). This includes ACSM, Cooper Institute, NSCA, NSCA CSCS, NASM, NESTA, NCSF, NETA, IFPA, NFPT, ACE, PTA Global. Must also complete required safety trainings including CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Child Abuse Prevention as well as YMCA of the USA Healthy Lifestyle Principles. Current required certifications and trainings are the responsibility of the employee.

Requirements
  • Actively recruits and retains personal training clients.
  • Personal information of members/ clients must be kept strictly confidential to maintain a high degree of trust and confidence.
  • Contractual agreements and payments for members must be processed thru member services and in adherence with the Y's accounting procedures and policies.
  • Remains current with wellness industry standards and trends.
  • Seeks new members to serve on a continual basis.
  • Greets and develops friendly, professional relationships with all members.
  • Designs programs that are tailored to individual health and wellness objectives, documents progress.
  • Coach members in support of their desired behavior change.
  • Regularly checks on members' progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Introduces new members to group exercise communities based on their health and well-being goals.
  • Utilizes tools, technology and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of wellness as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.).
  • May conduct post-enrollment interviews to understand new members' definition of well-being, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests and develops plans to meet their individual needs.
  • Achieves assigned performance goals.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately when rescue or first aid is necessary.
  • Enforce all safety rules fairly, consistently with tact and respect.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Up to date National Accredited Personal Training Certification ACSM, Cooper Institute, NSCA, NSCA CSCS, NASM, NESTA, NCSF, NETA, IFPA, NFPT, ACE, PTA Global)
  • 4 year degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Science preferred
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
