JOB SUMMARY: Must have weekend, evening, and/or afternoon availability. Under the supervision of the Health & Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer will design a personal and individualized wellness program for the member he/she is working with. The Personal Trainer will represent the Old Colony Y in a positive, professional manner resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous service. The Personal Trainer will be responsible for providing individualized service suited for the member's personal needs and goals. The Personal Trainer will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y. The Personal Trainer will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
JOB FUNCTION:1. Program/Department Responsibilities - Log all personal training sessions delivered into the MotionVibe system of the Old Colony YMCA
- Design a personal training program based on the member's needs and goals.
- Provide safe, motivational instruction to each client.
- Design a safe, effective workout grounded in acceptable exercise techniques, practicing only within the scope of education and knowledge trainer possesses.
- Maintain accurate health screening records.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Advise clients on good nutrition.
2. Supervision of Personnel 3. Fiscal Responsibilities - Follow the Old Colony Y accounting policies and procedures in regards to purchasing, payroll, etc.
- Follow budgeted guidelines for the program.
4. Facility/Housekeeping Responsibilities - Monitor cleanliness of all training facilities.
- Report any maintenance problems with equipment or fitness center immediately to the Health & Wellness Director
- Ensure that clean towels and full bottles of disinfectant are available for your client to use on the equipment.
Job Description: Personal Trainer 5. Inter-Divisional/Community/Volunteer Responsibilities - Provide friendly, courteous service to all members, clients, volunteers and staff of the Y.
- Contribute to a positive work environment by illustrating pride in job, enthusiasm and cooperation with co-workers.
- Participate with volunteer opportunities such as: Member Appreciation Day, Health Fairs and other YMCA sponsored community events.
- Participate in Association program related activities such as Program Training Conferences.
Education, Experience, Physical Requirements - Associate/Bachelor Degree in exercise science or related field, and one national certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, advanced YMCA certification), and 6 months previous practical/relevant experience in the field or
- Two national certifications (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, YMCA), and 2 years previous practical/relevant experience in the field.
- YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning within one year of employment.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Obtain additional required YMCA certifications/other certifications as needed.
- Maintain minimum hours as Fitness Instructor as required by supervisor.
- Wear appropriate staff attire.
- Ability to bend, kneel, move, or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, move, carry 45 lbs.; and ability to occasionally lift, move, carry weights in excess of 45lbs. alone or with assistance.
