Job Description: Permanent Food Service Substitute (EduStaff)
Location: Various school buildings within the district, Madison Heights, Michigan
Schedule: 6:00 am - 1:30 pm daily
Rate: $17.00 per hour
Position Summary: The Permanent Food Service Substitute will provide essential support to the food service operations within various school buildings in the district. This role is crucial in ensuring the continuity of meal services when regular food service staff are absent. The individual will be responsible for a variety of tasks including food preparation, point-of-sale operation, cleaning, assisting other staff, and performing any other duties typically assigned to a food service worker. This position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a strong commitment to providing nutritious and efficient meal services to students.
Education and Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous food service experience preferred, but not required.
- Valid Safe Serve certification (or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe).
Physical Requirements: - Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment with varying temperatures.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Food Preparation and Service:
- Prepare and cook a variety of food items according to standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
- Serve food to students and staff in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure food is maintained at proper temperatures and adheres to all food safety regulations.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down serving lines.
- Monitor food inventory and communicate needs to the building food service supervisor.
- Point-of-Sale Operation:
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently to process student and staff meal purchases.
- Handle cash and other forms of payment with accuracy and integrity.
- Maintain accurate records of transactions.
- Reconcile cash drawers.
- Cleaning and Sanitation:
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including food preparation areas, serving lines, and dining areas.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment.
- Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors.
- Dispose of trash and recyclables properly.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines.
- Assistance and Collaboration:
- Assist other food service staff as needed.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and students.
- Work collaboratively as a team member to ensure efficient food service operations.
- Follow directions from the building food service supervisor.
- Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director or Building Food Service Supervisor.
- Attend required training and meetings.
- Follow all district policies and procedures.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment and point-of-sale systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to handle cash and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Flexibility to work at various locations within the school district.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in school kitchen and cafeteria environments.
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, as well as cleaning chemicals.
- May require working during school hours, including early mornings and lunch periods.
