This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus and paid relocation to Raleigh, NC. This role is a part of the Novant Health Mobile MRI team.
Responsibilities
The Mobile MR Technologist travels with the mobile MR truck and assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and safely operating the MR equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans.
Safety
Corroborates patient's identification and clinical history with procedure and ensures information is documented and made available for use by a licensed practitioner.
Verifies informed consent for applicable procedures.
Performs screening processes for medication reconciliation and allergy confirmation.
Identifies and responds to emergency situations.
Performs on-going quality assurance activities.
Applies the principles of safety during all aspects of patient care including the principles of proper body mechanics and infection control precautions.
Complies with organization and department policies, protocols, and procedures.
Imaging
Receives, relays, and documents verbal, written, and electronic orders.
Prepares patient for procedure and assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
Demonstrates understanding of human anatomy, pathology, physiology, and medical terminology.
Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient's age, condition, and abilities.
Follows protocols established by licensed practitioner and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety.
Maintains high degree of accuracy in positioning.
Identifies, prepares, and administers medications, including contrast media, as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Performs venipuncture as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Evaluates images for technical quality and ensures proper recording of patient identification and anatomical laterality.
Ensures accurate and complete examination is performed.
Ensures timely review and transfer of images and pertinent clinical information to a licensed practitioner.
Properly operates electronic medical record (EMR), radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
Patient Care
Provides care for the patient needs procedures.
Applies the principles of safety during all aspects of patient care including the principles of proper body mechanics and infection control precautions.

Maintains certification and registration with the appropriate credentialing organization:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS).
Maintains applicable state license.
Professional Development
Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
Shares knowledge and expertise with colleagues, peers, and all members of the healthcare team.
For all MR Technologists and as applicable by site:
Properly operates MR scanners.
Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
Selects appropriate coils to produce required images.
Conducts screening interviews to ensure a safe environment.
Identifies contraindications to entering the MR environment and restricts access.
Maintains safe air temperature and notifies appropriate personnel when needed.
Ensures safe cryogen level and notifies appropriate personnel when needed.
Knowledgeable of emergency shutdown procedures.
Applies principles of MR safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
Reports all MR safety-related issues to manager/supervisor.
Assists the licensed practitioner with interventional MR procedures.
Performs MR procedures for diagnostic interpretation or therapeutic intervention as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Additional Skills:
Well versed in MRI safety issues such as medical prosthetics and implants as well as general magnet care and safety.
Ensure patient safety including pre- screening.
Cultivate and maintain effective communication with customers and radiologist. Capable of troubleshooting the scanner, coach and peripheral equipment as to insure we provide only the highest quality of MRI studies.
May be called on to train and mentor new technologist and technical Assistants. Required flexibility with schedule changes.
Travel is regularly required.
Thorough knowledge of MRI imaging equipment, analytical ability and basic computer skills. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
Good communication skills.
Additional functions for mobile MR Technologist:
Properly pack and unpack mobile MR prior to and after transportation.
Ensure secure storage of all equipment prior to and after transportation.
Confirms all connectivity before daily operations.
Performs quality control tests as applicable.
Orients to site to ensure protocols are followed.
Knows emergency operations for transport stretchers, lifts, and doors for each mobile MR.
Qualifications
Education:
High School or GED required
Graduate of ARRT-approved Radiography Program or MR Program required
2 Year/Associate Degree preferred
Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience in MR required
License/Certification:
Certified and registered by ARRT in MR - RT(R)(MR) or RT(MR) required
IV Credentialed required
Applicable state license required
