About the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Dell Medical School is dedicated to delivering comprehensive, high-acuity surgical care while advancing innovation in clinical practice, education, and research. Our team provides the full continuum of care for patients with complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular conditions, in close collaboration with partners across critical care, cardiology, and anesthesiology.
We have particular expertise in:- Complex aortic surgery, including open and hybrid approaches to thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.
- Cardiogenic shock, with robust integration of temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support including extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
- Heart transplantation and advanced heart failure therapies.

About the Faculty Instructor - Pediatric Cardiac Surgery PositionThe Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and Dell Children s Medical Center of Central Texas (DCMCCT) seeks qualified candidates for a one- or two-year faculty instructor position in pediatric cardiac surgery. Under the direction of Dr. Charles Fraser Jr., Dell Children s Medical Center and Dell Medical School have launched the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease. This instructor position offers the opportunity to work with internationally recognized physician leaders.
Candidates will possess experience in caring for children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease. Qualified candidates should also have completed an AGME-accredited cardiothoracic residency program or an international equivalent. Primary responsibilities will include provision of direct care to patients prior to, during, and after cardiac surgery. The candidate will be looking to advance his/her knowledge in Congenital Heart Surgery and patient care management.
A successful candidate will have a faculty appointment within the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School and regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents will be expected. Opportunities for collaboration with medical and adjunct specialties will be encouraged to allow for the pursuit of innovative program development and clinical research initiatives.
Required Qualifications:- Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic residency program or international equivalent.
- Meets applicable credentialing and privileging standards for his/her specialty.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas (or the ability to obtain one prior to appointment), or completion of all steps of the United States Medical License Exam (USMLE) prior to starting the position.
- Eligible for faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.
- Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
