Pediatric General Surgeon (Trauma) - Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

The University of South Florida (USF) is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatric General Surgeon with fellowship training and experience in trauma surgery to join the faculty at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (commensurate with experience). The ideal candidate will possess outstanding clinical judgment, advanced surgical skills, and the ability to thrive in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment.

This role requires a strong commitment to clinical excellence, trauma care, multidisciplinary teamwork, teaching, and academic scholarship.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will play an essential role in delivering high-quality pediatric surgical care-including trauma care and ECMO-within a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. You'll collaborate with a dedicated team at Tampa General Hospital, a designated Level 1 Trauma Center, to care for critically ill and injured children.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive surgical care to pediatric patients in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and emergency/trauma settings
  • Participate in the trauma surgery call rotation as part of a multidisciplinary trauma team
  • Conduct physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop patient-centered treatment plans
  • Work closely with colleagues across specialties to deliver seamless care

Teaching Duties:

  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and clinical fellows
  • Participate in educational conferences, rounds, and curriculum development
  • Demonstrate leadership in promoting clinical education in pediatric and trauma surgery

Research & Quality Improvement:

  • Engage in clinical research and/or quality improvement projects related to pediatric and trauma surgery
  • Contribute to scholarly publications and department-wide academic initiatives

Administrative Duties:

  • Ensure timely completion of required institutional and trauma program training (e.g., Code of Conduct, coding compliance)
  • Participate in hospital and department meetings, trauma conferences, and service initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical/Doctoral degree from an accredited institution
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery with experience in trauma care
  • Eligible for Florida medical licensure
  • Demonstrated dedication to teaching, patient care, and academic contribution
  • Meets criteria for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery
  • Prior experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center or high-volume trauma setting
  • Strong communication and emotional intelligence with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Proven track record in trauma management, patient safety, and quality outcomes
