A prestigious national law firm is seeking a Payroll Specialist and a Payroll Analyst for two long-term temporary assignments within its finance and HR departments. These roles are ideal for experienced professionals who are highly detail-oriented, possess a strong knowledge of payroll practices, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven legal or professional services environment. These assignments are estimated to last between 6-12 months.
1. Payroll Specialist - Temporary Assignment
Key Responsibilities:
- Process multi-state payroll for attorneys and staff using in-house payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, or UltiPro).
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and bonuses.
- Maintain and update employee records, timesheets, and direct deposit information.
- Handle payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly and professionally.
- Assist with compliance reporting and year-end tax documents (W-2s, etc.).
- Support payroll audits and coordinate with HR on onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Collaborate with accounting on general ledger entries related to payroll.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
- Proficient in payroll software systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
Compensation:
$40 - 45/hr.
2. Payroll Analyst - Temporary Assignment
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze payroll data for accuracy, compliance, and reporting purposes.
- Prepare and maintain internal reports related to payroll metrics, tax filings, and headcount.
- Conduct audits and reconciliations of payroll records and GL entries.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Compliance teams to streamline payroll-related processes.
- Monitor updates to payroll laws and implement process adjustments as needed.
- Assist in data preparation for internal and external audits.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in payroll analysis or related financial reporting role.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data visualization).
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, compliance requirements, and payroll accounting.
- Previous experience in a legal or professional services environment is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Workday, ADP, or UKG is strongly preferred.
Compensation:
$50 - 55/hr.
