LHH is assisting our client in their search for a temp to perm Payroll Specialist. This role will report onsite five days per week. Experience with union payroll processing is a must for this role.


Job Overview:

  • Act as the primary payroll liaison, fielding questions and resolving concerns from employees, management, and union reps with professionalism and discretion.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide payroll staff while cultivating a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Coordinate directly with HR, finance, and union leadership to ensure accurate interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
  • Administer and reconcile all payroll deductions and contributions, including union dues, insurance premiums, taxes, retirement plans, and fringe benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with all union mandates, labor regulations, and contract-specific payroll provisions-union payroll expertise is a critical requirement.
  • Audit and validate payroll records routinely to guarantee alignment with labor contracts and legal standards.
  • Manage payroll processing for hourly and salaried staff, including calculating overtime, shift premiums, and holiday pay in accordance with union contracts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the payroll system, reflecting all personnel changes such as new hires, terminations, raises, and role shifts.
  • Deliver accurate payroll reporting for internal stakeholders and external agencies, including compliance reports, tax filings, union-specific submissions, and benefits-related documentation.
  • Research and implement changes to stay current with federal, state, and local payroll legislation, particularly as it pertains to unionized environments.
  • Take the lead in resolving payroll-related discrepancies, grievances, or disputes in a timely, contract-compliant manner.
  • Support job costing and expense allocation processes by accurately tracking labor hours and overhead across multiple departments or job sites.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 3+ years of payroll processing experience
  • Union payroll processing experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems
  • Analytical and problem solving mindset
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize in a fast paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local payroll taxes and reporting requirements
  • Deadline-driven
