Overview:

Elevate your career with CHAGEE as our Payroll Manager, where you'll oversee payroll operations across North America and ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of payroll for our salaried and hourly employees. This role is essential to our employee experience, requiring an individual who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and passionate about data integrity, compliance, and process improvement. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, HR, and external partners to drive seamless payroll operations in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.


What you'll do:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees across the U.S. and Canada.
  • Maintain and optimize payroll systems and integrations with HRIS, timekeeping, and benefits platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws as well as Canadian provincial regulations.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Accounting on payroll funding, general ledger reconciliations, audits, and reporting.
  • Regularly audit payroll inputs and outputs, ensuring data accuracy and preventing errors.
  • Lead year-end processes including W-2s, T4s, tax filings, and benefits reporting.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and discretion.
  • Manage vendor relationships with external payroll providers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Monitor changes in payroll legislation and adjust internal processes to maintain compliance.
  • Drive payroll-related projects including process enhancements, system upgrades, and policy updates.

Experience you need to be successful:

  • 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience with at least 2 years managing multi-state (U.S.) and/or multi-province (Canada) payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of North American payroll legislation, taxation, and government reporting.
  • Experience with major payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Ceridian, or Paycom, and familiarity with HRIS integrations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, with a strong understanding of data flow and reconciliation.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills; maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Working knowledge of wage and hour laws, garnishments, tax filings, and compliance standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner - Canada) certification is a plus.

The expected base salary range for this position is broadly $90,000 - $120,000. Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on considerations including (but not limited to): relevant knowledge and experience for this position, skills, education, certifications and more.
