Seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Manager to lead our in-house and client payroll operations. This pivotal in-office role is ideal for a proactive individual with deep payroll expertise, exceptional organization skills, and the ability to manage a high volume of activity with precision and professionalism.


This role is essential to ensuring payroll compliance, client satisfaction, and smooth internal HR support. A minimum of 3+ years' of payroll and accounting experience is required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll operations for both internal staff and clients
  • Manage and support payroll team members
  • Administer 401(k) contributions and health insurance renewals
  • Conduct final review of client payrolls before delivery or direct deposit
  • Process payroll using multiple software platforms, including QuickBooks
  • Maintain employee payroll records and deductions
  • Administer garnishments, child support, and other withholdings
  • Prepare and file federal/state payroll tax deposits and returns (EFTPS, state portals)
  • Process W-2s, 1099s, and 1095s, including IRS/BSO electronic filings
  • Ensure accurate quarterly and year-end reporting for clients
  • Support client audits related to payroll, workers' comp, and retirement plans
  • Research and respond to complex payroll inquiries or compliance issues

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years in payroll and accounting roles
  • Strong Excel proficiency (formulas, lookups)
  • Deep understanding of FLSA, wage and hour laws, prevailing wage
  • Familiarity with union payrolls, multi-state payroll, and 401(k) administration
  • Experience with 1099/W-2 compliance and reporting
  • Prior experience with QuickBooks and other payroll systems
  • Experience filing payroll taxes manually (not just through software)
