Our client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join their People & Culture team on a freelance basis. This role is crucial in managing payroll and benefits for our employees across North America, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations while providing excellent service to our internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state environment, and familiarity with Dayforce or Workday systems.


  • This is a full-time, six-month contract position
  • Schedule required: three days in the office, two days remote from home.
  • Location: West Hollywood, CA

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll and conduct audits for various locations across the US and Canada.
  • Review and approve funding processes for net payroll, taxes, and deductions.
  • Manage accounting-related payroll functions including general ledger interface and reconciliations.
  • Establish and adhere to year-end processes in compliance with current payroll regulations.
  • Assist employees with benefits claims issues and plan changes.
  • Audit HRIS data to ensure accurate administration of benefits and payroll.
  • Prepare W-2s, W-2c's, and conduct quarterly/year-end tax filings.
  • Generate weekly payroll forecasts and assist Finance with monthly closings.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years leading payroll processes in a multi-state environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Platforms.
  • Experience with Dayforce/Ceridian preferred; Workday experience also considered beneficial.
