Position: Payroll Specialist

Location: Hybrid schedule, with regular in-office presence in Portland, Oregon.


Job Overview:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll for 800 employees, using Ceridian Dayforce. This role involves handling payroll for a diverse workforce, including salaried, hourly, and commissioned employees, across multiple states.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify employee time and labor data submitted from various locations, collaborating with supervisors to resolve discrepancies.
  • Process payroll for a multi-state, fast-paced corporate environment, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure accurate calculations and deductions, including federal, state, and local taxes, Social Security contributions, employee benefits, fringe benefits, garnishments, and other payroll-related deductions.
  • Assist in reconciling payroll accounts and resolving any discrepancies that arise.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding paychecks, deductions, voided transactions, leave accruals, direct deposits, and other payroll-related concerns.
  • Handle garnishment processing and communicate relevant details to involved parties.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations by ensuring correct setup of tax accounts for new states, and managing the completion of required tax filings.
  • Oversee payroll-related details for assigned divisions, including reporting, updating pay information, processing final pay, and managing communication during separations.
  • Generate and manage payroll reports from the HRIS system.
  • Perform employment verifications as needed.
  • Conduct research to establish necessary tax accounts in new operating states and work with tax agencies to resolve discrepancies.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in complex payroll processing, ideally in a multi-state environment.
  • Proven ability to work a hybrid schedule, including full in-office days regularly.
  • Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or relevant experience.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll, garnishments, and automated timekeeping systems.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and payroll accounting processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all payroll tasks.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
