CFS Columbus is honored to again partner with our construction client on their search to fill a new payroll position. The Payroll Admin will be responsible for processing and assisting payroll operations while ensuring accurate and timely payment of employees. This position offers a flexible 8 am-4 pm schedule onsite in Southeast Columbus.
Key Responsibilities - Process bi-weekly/weekly payroll for construction workers, office staff, and contractors
- Calculate hours worked, including regular time, overtime, and prevailing wage rates
- Process certified payroll reports for government contracts
- Track and apply union benefits and deductions where applicable
- Maintain accurate records of employee time cards, leave, and attendance
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee inquiries
- Calculate and process garnishments, benefits, and tax deductions
- Maintain knowledge of construction-specific labor laws and regulations
- Prepare and file payroll tax returns and reports
- Assist with year-end processing, including W-2s and 1099s
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate job costing
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personnel and payroll information
Preferred Qualifications - 2-3 years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or related industry
- Knowledge of construction-specific payroll requirements (prevailing wages, certified payroll)
- Proficiency with payroll and accounting software
- Understanding of federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Experience with Davis-Bacon Act requirements for government contracts (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills
Education & Certification - High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in accounting or a related field preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus
$60,000-$70,000
