Payroll Accountant
Our client is seeking a meticulous and proactive Payroll Accountant to become a vital part of their Accounting and Finance team. In this key role, you will oversee payroll processing, benefits reconciliation, tax compliance, and the resolution of discrepancies. You will also play a crucial part in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing procedures, ensuring accurate financial reporting and reconciliations related to payroll. This position requires exceptional problem-solving skills, keen attention to detail, and strong communication abilities to support and enhance our payroll operations.
What You'll Do:
- Payroll Processing & Troubleshooting: Guarantee timely and accurate payroll by resolving discrepancies (e.g., deductions) and collaborating with HR and Finance to maintain consistency and compliance within our HRIS system (Dayforce).
- Benefits Reconciliation: Reconcile employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, life insurance, and accident/illness benefits, ensuring accurate application of deductions and contributions in compliance with tax regulations.
- Tax & Compliance: Maintain accurate tax records, stay current with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, and ensure compliance. Review and resolve issues arising from quarterly payroll processing in Dayforce.
- Month-End, Quarter-End & Year-End Processing: Prepare and maintain payroll-related reports, including balance sheet reconciliations for payroll, taxes, and benefits. Manage reconciliations and filings during month-end close, quarterly filings, and year-end processing.
- Collaboration: Partner with HR, Finance, and external vendors to coordinate payroll, benefits administration, and tax filing. Ensure seamless communication to address potential issues.
- System Maintenance: Ensure data integrity within Dayforce and serve as a subject matter expert for system updates or changes. Provide support to optimize and maintain the accuracy of the HRIS system.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2-3 years of payroll processing experience, including benefits reconciliation and tax compliance. Experience with Dayforce or a similar HRIS system is highly preferred.
- Certification: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll and tax laws, including federal, state, and local regulations.
- Technical and Interpersonal Skills: Solid proficiency in Microsoft Excel, excellent attention to detail and accuracy, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication skills.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, especially during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processing.
Location: NW Portland - In office position
Salary: $78,000-85,000
