Position Description: The Payload Integration Engineer will provide the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) utilization payload integration support for the EHP Program Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Office at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). On the EHP Program, utilization payloads refer to payloads designed for the purposes of science, research, development, test and evaluation, public outreach, and education. Description of Duties: The Utilization Payload Integration Engineer responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Coordinating with EHP assigned payloads regarding utilization payload requirements and interfaces, utilization payload integration, and utilization support Coordinating with EHP, Moon to Mars (M2M), and other M2M program personnel (e.g. Gateway, Orion, Extravehicular Activity and Human Landing System (HLS), etc.) regarding utilization payload interfaces, utilization payload integration, and utilization support Reviewing EHP Program documentation, including Interface Requirements Documents (IRDs), Systems Requirements Documents (SRDs), Concepts of Operation (ConOps), whitepapers, plans, charters, etc. Reviewing Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD)-level, M2M-level, and other M2M program documentation from an EHP utilization perspective Authoring new or modifying existing HLS Program requirements relating to utilization payload interfaces Developing EHP-specific utilization payload documentation, including interface requirements documents, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), payload users guides, operations products, etc. Supporting the development of M2M-level and cross-Program utilization payload integrated processes and associated products, from the EHP Program perspective Representing the EHP Utilization Payload Team to M2M Exploration Operations (EO) and other M2M programs in cross-program boards, panels, and working groups Reviewing service provider design data, deliverables, verification events, ConOps, and proposals. Providers include launch or transport vehicles, or NASA acquired items that may be used for utilization payloads. Serving as a direct interface between payload developers and EHP/M2M Shepherding Payload Developers (PDs) through the process of integration with EHP (includes gathering payload inputs and data, integration agreement development, procedure development, ICD development, build and maintenance of payload integration schedules, manifesting, Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR) support, etc.) Support EHP, M2M, cross-program, and utilization payload milestone reviews Providing inputs to periodic reporting products (e.g. SE&I weekly meetings, weekly notes, Monthly Program Reviews (MPR), Quarterly Program Reviews (QPR), EHP reviews, etc.); representing the EHP Utilization Payload Team at recurring status meetings and reviews as required Developing presentations for control boards, panels, and working groups Providing support to other vehicles and programs as requested Qualifications: A degree in Engineering or related technical field is required. A degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferredis required. Typically, educational requirement is a BS degree and 25 years of experience. Required: ISS or other spacecraft payload facility and/or research payload integration experience and a working knowledge of the NASA research payload integration processes and principles. Understanding of the processes required to prepare hardware/payloads for launch and operations in a microgravity environment, including the processes associated with reviews, documentation, quality, and safety. Strong problem-solving and stakeholder coordination skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Star ID will be required to obtain access to MSFC. Desired: Systems engineering experience. Experience with technical data integration, Microsoft Office, and knowledge of web-based tools such as WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint. Hardware integration experience. Understanding of the research solicitation process Understanding of collaboration with non-US citizens Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
