What You Will Do: - Registers inpatients and outpatients. Understands critical communication techniques to obtain accurate and complete patient demographic and financial information.
- Demonstrates understanding of performing patient interview using appropriate techniques in a compassionate, empathetic manner, whether on the phone or in person.
- Ensures patient flow is maintained and informs supervisor of departmental and patient issues in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of all insurances with an above average knowledge of Medicare MSP Guidelines.
- Obtains insurance carrier information and scans of both front and back of insurance cards for admissions. Verifies all patient demographic, Insurance, and medical data is accurate.
- Obtains signatures of consent for treatment, release of information to third party payors and various other agencies, and for insurance payment to come to the hospital. Refers all uninsured patients to Financial Counseling, if applicable.
- Ensures all registrations are HIPAA compliant by ensuring patients have received the hospital's Notice of Privacy Practices. NOP is documented as required. Reviews the release of information questions with all patients as required.
- Obtains and records patient admission information.
- Contacts nursing supervisor for inpatient room assignment if applicable.
- Escorts patients to their room, orients them to the room, or escorts patients to the ancillary department. Routes registration forms to the appropriate departments.
- Courteously answers telephone using established greetings and assists callers in a friendly, helpful manner.
- Monitors patient status changes, making changes timely.
- Consistently meets or exceeds productivity and quality standards for registrars.
- Validates orders for elements required and medical necessity on Medicare patients. Explains ABN process to patients and obtains signatures on ABN's. Follow-up as needed.
- Utilizes registration software programs to assist registration accuracy including but not limited to address verification and insurance verification.
- Completes scanning of documents/forms per established guidelines.
- Supports point of service collection of patient balances.
- Consistently demonstrates ability to use the hospital computer programs, copier, fax, printer and scanner accurately.
- Courteously answers telephone using established greetings and assists callers in a friendly, helpful manner.
- Accesses patient orders using established method.
- Collects and returns patient valuables as requested following established guidelines.
- Demonstrates complete understanding of Medical Center policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Medical Center's benefits provided by major employers in the area.
- Explains medical center policies regarding deposit responsibility of valuables and personal items, also responsible person to obtain and retrieve valuables.
- Demonstrates an understanding of medical terminology, consistently spells and uses terminology accurately.
- Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations with patients, families and physicians.
- Demonstrates good judgment in uncertain and unusual situations.
- Maintains a neat and professional appearance.
- Adjusts to new and revised policies and procedures.
What You Will Need: - High School diploma, or equivalent and completion of medical terminology class.
- Ability to understand instruction and effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
- Ability to use a computer and has above average computer skills.
- Willingness to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to read and write in small letters and numbers.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds and be mobile.
- Ability to push a patient weighing 250 lbs. in a wheelchair. Ability to work multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain a positive impression of the Medical Center at all times and handle sensitive telephone and face-to-face inquiries.
