Responsibilities

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patientcare which support and complement nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. At aminimum, the PCA carries out designated skills that are within those functions of a certified nursingassistant, as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledgeof the principles of growth and development through the life span and appropriately interpret informationrelative to the patient's age-specific needs. The PCA communicates data reflective of the patient's statusand delegated tasks and/or functions. The incumbent works flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. One of the following is required for this position:

Completion of a nursing assistant program (Certified Nursing Assistant), OR Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) OR completion of first block of nursing program.

Availability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting. Relevant experience preferred. Strong computer skills preferred. PCA's in the Inpatient Neurology Unit must be able to perform all duties in the Epilepsy monitoring unit within 90 days of hire/transfer to the unit.

Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Minimum 6 months acute care experience preferred.
