Summary

The Parts Manager is responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of the dealership's parts department. This includes managing inventory, supervising staff, ensuring excellent customer service, and achieving sales and profit goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of automotive parts, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for exceeding customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Management
  • Hire, train, motivate, and supervise parts department staff, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement development plans.
  • Hold regular department meetings to communicate goals, address challenges, and promote teamwork.
  • Monitor employee performance and address any disciplinary issues in accordance with company policy.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain a well-organized and accurate inventory to meet the needs of the service department, body shop, wholesale accounts, and retail customers.
  • Establish and monitor inventory levels, ensuring optimal turnover and minimizing obsolescence.
  • Implement and oversee efficient stock order procedures, including special orders.
  • Analyze inventory data to identify trends, forecast demand, and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure all parts are properly tagged and tracked to maximize factory credits.
Sales & Profitability
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies to achieve gross profit targets while maintaining customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Develop and manage a successful wholesale parts program, building strong relationships with accounts.
  • Monitor sales performance, analyze key metrics, and implement strategies to drive revenue growth.
  • Develop and execute sales promotions and marketing initiatives to attract new customers and increase sales.
  • Prepare and manage the department's annual operating budget.
Customer Service
  • Ensure that both internal (service/body shop) and external customers receive exceptional service.
  • Develop and enforce customer service guidelines to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints promptly and professionally. Operations & Compliance
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate the efficient flow of paperwork and shipping/receiving activities.
  • Monitor daily reports (e.g., DOE, DOC) and utilize a lost sales tracking report to identify areas for improvement.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Automotive Parts Manager.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in business or a related field is a plus.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales and profit goals in a parts department.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership, management, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive parts and inventory management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and dealership management software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and other business documents.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate figures and percentages.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
