Job Description Semi-skilled maintenance and manual work involving grounds maintenance, landscaping, and custodial duties while monitoring park grounds. Maintain park's appearance, and protect park environment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Parks & Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. During occasions of local emergencies, this position shall be required to perform emergency tasks which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members.

This position will be scheduled to work Wednesday through Sunday, 24 hours per week.
  • Maintains park structures including buildings, boardwalks, fences, docks, restrooms, and shelters, etc.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to Supervisor. Cleans and checks tools and equipment after use.
  • Performs all landscaping tasks that are required in a park. This may include mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, weeding, planting, etc.
  • Removes dying/diseased trees from City parks.
  • Educates visitors on proper use of park facilities and equipment.
  • Cleans restrooms, shelters, trash receptacles, etc.
  • Patrols and monitors park areas.
  • Ensures all safety guidelines are being followed and identifies, and addresses all safety concerns.
  • Performs routine pond maintenance and inspections. Complete proper inspection form and submit to Stormwater Technician.
  • Assists with the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Assists with maintenance and repair of pond and lake fountains.
  • Operates various types and sizes of trucks and motorized equipment.
  • Performs heavy manual labor such as digging and lifting.
  • Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks and moves or assists in moving heavy equipment.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all departmental/divisional policies and procedures and the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties that are consistent with assigned Department responsibilities.
  • Public Contact/Guest Service.
  • Participates in other special events and programming.
  • Provides first aide/medical assistance when needed.
  • Have working knowledge of Best Management Practices (BMP) procedures.
  • Have working knowledge of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector procedures.
  • Responds to emergency situations and assists with solving problems as they arise.
  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May assist Streets & Stormwater Department with various task as assigned.

  • May assist Facilities Department with interior and exterior building repairs.

  • Sets up City facilities to accommodate special meetings and seating requirements.

  • Assists with City special events and seasonal activities such as setting up and working during City events and installing and removing Christmas decorations throughout the City.

  • Attends workshops and training courses.

    TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Pickup truck, 1-ton dump truck, utility truck, truck trailer, tractor, Z turn mower, edger, weed eater, chainsaw, message boards, and other power tools.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Minimum one (1) to three (3) years' experience in the trades that are specified, or other specific vocational preparation, depending on entry level. Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the various trade areas specified for this position. Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations which may occur. Ability to perform the required duties and responsibilities in extreme weather conditions. Ability to work alone. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and management as necessitated by the work. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid Florida Class B, Driver's License with tanker endorsementORthe ability to obtain a Class B CDL within one year of employment. Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification, Best Management Practices (BMP) certification, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification, Florida Ornamental and Turf pesticide license, or the ability to obtain within one year of employment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS

Heavy (fifty (50) pounds or over) lifting and carrying required. Performs physical tasks while walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks for extended periods of time in varying inclement weather conditions. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Works inside and outside in varying and inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time with noise, dust, fumes, grease, oil, electrical energy, heat, and cold conditions. Ability to work in confined spaces. Works on slippery and uneven surfaces. Works in transportation right-of-way areas with moving objects or vehicles. Works at heights of up to thirty (30) to forty (40) feet. Performs physical tasks while walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, etc.



Compensation details:15.18-22.77 Hourly Wage
