JOB SUMMARY:
The primary function will entail the performance of organizational, administrative, operations, and maintenance tasks required at the RRWC 1North Adventure Trails but will also include other sites when needed. Park Manager shall: plan, organize, schedule and control site level work activities which include administrative, maintenance, security, recreational and custodial services; oversee park scheduling of events and monitor park usage; prepare purchase requests and make needed purchases; prepare reports and correspondence; establish policies and procedures for park operations; perform manual labor tasks required to operate and maintain buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment throughout the Red River Waterway District.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Interfaces and assists the public with their use of recreation facility.
- Keeps records of activities/incidents which occur in the park facility.
- Assists the O&M Director in administrative assignments as necessary.
- Schedules and coordinates with event planners and assist in preparation and facilitation of events.
- Makes minor repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities and maintains equipment employing basic skills in the plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical and related fields.
- Maintains and makes basic repairs to lawn mowers, appliances, chainsaws, pumps, trucks, tractors, including ensuring proper lubricant levels, replacing and adjusting minor worn or damaged parts (belts, plugs, fuses, hoses, etc.).
- Starts, operates, maintains and checks for safe operation of a wide variety of items including construction equipment, tractors, trucks, machinery, various implements, small engines, lawn mowers, hand tools, pumps, chainsaws, trimmers, power tools, etc.
- Performs basic road and parking lot maintenance by clearing drains, spreading road surface material, filling potholes, placement of signs, repairing fences, painting traffic control lines, removing trees and limbs, etc.
- Mows, trims grass, performs landscaping duties, cleans silt and debris from boat ramps, empties garbage cans, cuts and removes trees, limbs, debris, and garbage from parks and parking lots, etc.
- Repairs, cleans, and maintains restroom facilities, pavilions and other park improvements.
- Assists with inventory control of equipment and supplies.
- Assists in the construction and/or assembly of various items.
- Coordinates with RRWC contractors, city, parish, and state personnel, etc.
- Operates RRWC vehicles to travel to various recreation areas and facilities.
- Operates phones and computers to utilize Microsoft Office products, email, etc.
- Performs other duties as directed by the O&M Director or Executive Director.
- Weekend work may be required on an as needed basis.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Safe operation of referenced equipment and machinery; basic plumbing; basic electrical systems and repairs; basic landscaping; basis computer skills; basic operations and maintenance skills, etc., in order to complete the referenced duties.
Skill/Ability to: Perform basic operations and maintenance duties and operate standard maintenance equipment in a safe manner; understand and follow instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; tolerate outside working conditions including, at times, exposure to adverse weather conditions; perform manual labor including frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds, and occasional group lifting in excess of 100 pounds; operate individually without direct oversight on a day to day basis; operate in groups or teams when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- High school diploma, or its equivalent, plus at least 5 years experience or training in the building construction trades, general building maintenance, or in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- College degree is a plus.
- Prior experience and/or certification in park or recreation management is a plus.
- A commercial certification for herbicide application is a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus.
- Louisiana driver s license with good driving record.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
