TITLE: PARENTS AS TEACHER'S EDUCATOR - PART TIME EMPLOYEE

REPORTS TO: THE DIRECTOR OF THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM.

JOB GOAL: TO CREATE A FIRST LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. TO ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE RAPPORT WITH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES; THROUGH HOME VISITS AND GROUP MEETINGS WITH FAMILIES ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. TO MOTIVATE CHILDREN TO DEVELOP SKILLS, ATTITUDES AND KNOWLEDGE NEEDED TO PROVIDE A GOOD FOUNDATION FOR ENTRY INTO KINDERGARTEN. TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITH FAMILIES, SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO PROVIDE NEEDED RESOURCES FOR CHILDREN ENROLLED IN P.A.T.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must hold certification in the field of Parents as Teachers meeting state and national requirements.
2. Must have received training through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
3. Must use the P.A.T. program as the basis for instructing children and working with families.
4. Must adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
5. Must abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff Board of
Education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The educator will develop lesson plans and instructional materials and will provide individualized
and small group instruction in order to adapt the P.A.T. curriculum to the needs of her families.
2. Will translate lesson plans into learning experience to best utilize the available time for
instruction in both home visits and group meetings.
3. Evaluates pupil's developmental growth through screenings and personal visits and keeps
appropriate records.
4. Adopts and uses the curriculum to provide individual, small group and large group opportunities for families.
5. Identifies pupil and family needs and cooperates with other professional staff members and community resources to meet these needs.
6. Communicates by home visitation or group meetings on a regular basis with parents concerning the progress of each student.
7. Participates in required in-service and professional growth activities to stay current in the PAT program and to maintain P.A.T. certification.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Prepares home visit and group meeting materials, and maintains P.A.T. materials in an organized manner.
  2. Prepares lesson plans according to P.A.T. curriculum guidelines.
  3. Supervises children during group meetings.
  4. Observes, evaluates, and records student progress. All records must be entered online into Visit Tracker program in a timely manner each month.
  5. Works cooperatively with all other P.A.T. staff in planning and implementing P.A.T. events.
  6. Plans and prepares activities to involve the parent and child at home, based upon the child's needs.
  7. Prepares materials and gathers information to leave with parents on home visits.
  8. Evaluates home visits and group meetings through use of official P.A.T survey forms.
  9. Conducts required pre and post testing and paperwork of children. Exits families when required.
  10. Completes other tasks for the good of the program as requested by supervisory personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  1. Must be able to physically move about the classroom or home instructing students on the floor, in chairs, or in the group settings.
  2. Must be able to communicate (both verbally and written) with students, staff and parents.
  3. Must be able to proficiently use and access email, the Visit Tracker Web program and the internet.
  4. Must be able to lift and carry P.A.T. materials.
  5. Must hold a Missouri Driver's License and be able to make home visits.
