Paraprofessional (Instructional Assistant)
JOB DESCRIPTION: La Academia's Paraprofessional (Instructional Assistants) will be responsible for supporting their co-teachers both inside and outside the classroom setting. This includes supporting with morning student arrival, cafeteria and hall coverage, recess monitoring, and dismissal. Within the classroom, they will support instruction; working with the class, small groups, or one-one with students.

REPORTS TO: Deans of Curriculum & Instruction

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates with the teacher or case manager in the planning and development of activities and resources for students using Dual Language approach
  • Works with students in a variety of grouping structures including individual, small group, or total group settings as prescribed by instructional programs
  • Provides accommodations to students, as required, to ensure students' success
  • Assists in ongoing monitoring of students' progress through data collection of objectives (may include collection & summation of raw data and computer work)
  • Supports Students pushing in to the general education classrooms or pulling out to provide small group services as stated in the student IEP (if special education instructional assistant).
  • Assists the teacher in routine tasks, such as, but not limited to: duties, record keeping, transitions, limited clerical work, assisting on field trips, assisting in special subjects, monitoring social interactions, checking homework, gathering/preparing materials for students, assisting classroom activities, and operating multimedia equipment.
  • Ensures the safety of the students within their work environment
  • Has knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of individual students through collaboration with the teacher
  • Participates in ongoing staff development and any other work related meetings
  • Ensures student confidentiality
  • Consistently maintains a professional attitude in all settings
  • Supports classroom in absence of a teacher
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must hold a High School diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Paraprofessional Certified
  • Must be able to follow simple directions
  • Use of photocopier, scanner, fax, and lamination machine
  • Must meet the qualifications by the Dept. of Education to secure Paraprofessional Permit Status
  • Must have the ability to speak to students, co-workers and parents in a professional manner at all times
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position for student learning and classroom teacher support
