We are seeking a versatile Legal Assistant / Paralegal with strong litigation experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage both legal secretary and paralegal duties. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and experienced in federal electronic court filing systems, including MEC.
Key Responsibilities:
Paralegal Duties:
- Bill time for paralegal work and manage time entries accurately
- Conduct document review and summarization for litigation matters
- Draft simple legal documents, including correspondence, discovery responses, and routine pleadings
- Assist with case preparation, including timelines, exhibits, and supporting materials
- Perform light legal research as needed
Legal Secretary Duties:
- Type, proofread, and format legal documents accurately
- Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate court dates
- Handle all electronic filing (state and federal courts, including MEC and PACER)
- Organize and maintain electronic case files and document management systems
- Communicate with clients, court staff, and other law firms professionally and promptly
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a litigation practice
- Proficiency in federal and state court electronic filing systems (MEC, PACER)
- Ability to bill hours for paralegal-level work
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple deadlines
Preferred:
- Background in construction litigation
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience
