Position Overview:

As a Legal Assistant in the Tax Certiorari practice, you will provide essential administrative and legal support to attorneys, ensuring the smooth operation of our legal team. This role involves managing client files, assisting with property tax assessment challenges, and performing day-to-day office and case management tasks. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and adept at handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced legal environment.


Key Responsibilities:


• Administrative Support:


• Manage attorneys' calendars, ensuring deadlines and court dates are met.


• Perform administrative tasks, such as filing, document organization, and maintaining office supplies.


• Assist with the general flow of office operations, ensuring that files and documents are easily accessible and properly organized.


• Case Management & Document Preparation:


• Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all documents are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.


• File documents with appropriate courts, government agencies, and municipal authorities, including the New York Supreme Court, NYC Department of Finance and NYC Tax Commission.


• Draft and prepare legal documents including petitions, stipulations, affidavits, and correspondence related to tax certiorari cases.


• Assist in preparing property tax assessment appeals, compiling necessary supporting documentation.


• Client Communication:


• Serve as a point of contact for clients, updating them on case status and requesting necessary information or documents.


• Schedule meetings, calls, and appointments for attorneys and clients.


• Respond to client inquiries, as well as correspondence from opposing counsel and government officials, under the guidance of attorneys.


Qualifications:


• Education & Experience:


• Bachelor's degree required.


• At least 1-2 years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or in a similar administrative role.


• Experience in a tax certiorari or property tax law practice is a plus.


Skills & Abilities:


• Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research tools.


• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.


• Ability to work independently without frequent oversight from a supervisor.


• Experience with legal document management systems, case management software, and e-filing systems is a plus.


• Familiarity with New York City property tax laws and assessment processes is a plus.


Compensation:


• Salary range is $65,000 to $85,000 based on experience. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan options.
