Cole, Scott & Kissane, an AV-rated litigation firm, is seeking a full-time, experienced Paralegal for its Fort Lauderdale East (Downtown) office. The prospective candidate will lend support for Partner, Craig Minko's practice group for our busy Insurance Defense Division, thus, prior civil litigation experience is required. Experience in the area of General Liability, Employment Law, Condominium Litigation issues is a plus and will be considered above others. Moreover, familiarity with L & A codes, billing software, and proven competency to capture time and bill according to guidelines in a timely manner, is a must. The ability to multi-task and stay calm under pressure of multiple deadlines is also essential. This is a hands-on position that involves working collaboratively with clients, opposing counsel, legal professionals, and fellow employees of the firm. The position also requires strong organizational skills and the ability to perform well within a team environment. Qualified candidates must be familiar with court procedures and have extensive experience with researching, scheduling, drafting legal documents, follow-up/follow-through and filing pleadings in state and federal courts. The ideal candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills, good common sense, possess meticulous attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills. Said candidate must also be detail oriented, work well under pressure, along with a positive, pleasant disposition and have a good attendance record.
Responsibilities:- Support legal team by requesting, analyzing and case-capture records for clients, attorneys and experts.
- Draft discovery response shells.
- Conduct case research via Internet or through local libraries.
- Organize and prepare both outline and narrative summaries of the records for internal use and for presentation to the client.
- Analyze billing material to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence. Prepare case analysis. Identify issues, omissions and discrepancies.
- Identify and provide information regarding trial experts and coordinate expert deposition preparation.
- Assist attorneys with evidence preparation and organization for hearing or trial.
- Compose and type document production including case analysis memoranda for attorneys, outline and narrative summaries, and chronologies of case facts, correspondence, and reports.
- Compile data for exhibits.
- Conduct preliminary legal research as necessary
