This Outreach Worker II position is responsible for performing mid-level clerical Outreach Center activities such as conducting personal interviews, attending training, translating, recruiting volunteers, conduct community education workshops, dissemination of health improvement information, assisting with implementing services, and assisting with scheduling and assignment issues. This position is grant funded and temporary. Position is located in El Paso, TX

Salary Range: $15.00 - $15.95 hourly (based on hire's qualifications)

Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience, paid or voluntary, in community activities.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • Must have a Class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Inability to obtain a valid Texas driver License may result in termination. May be subject to yearly Motor Vehicle Record/driver license checks.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
  • Must have knowledge of Colonia communities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Promotor(a) or Community Health Worker certificate from Texas Department of Health Services.
Essential Duties/Tasks:
  • Recruiting - Performs outreach activities by conducting personal interviews with residents of the Colonia areas by traveling in the area to speak with the Colonia residents to provide information and education about the programs available to them. Will take a lead role in describing and implementing services.
  • Administrative Duties - Serves as direct assistant to the Associate Regional Director and Program Coordinator, serving as their back up as necessary. Serves as the line supervisor for the other Outreach Workers. Assists with development of programs. Develops strategies for recruitment of other residents as volunteers to help with providing services and information to the residents. Prepares reports on numbers and other information regarding personal contacts made. Performs telephone duties at the Center as needed. Will schedule visits and coordinate assignment of other duties.
  • Trainings - Attends training that includes, but is not limited to health, disease prevention, and health outreach education, youth and elderly services. Will assist with helping Outreach Worker I employees to understand aspects of the training. Assists with development of training agencies. Will Coordinate schedules of Outreach Worker I and II employees for training purposes. Serves as a role model for other outreach workers. Leads training sessions for volunteers and informational workshops community residents.
  • Communication Skills - Provides assistance in translating in an understandable manner what is required of the residents to participate in programs currently being offered at the Center. Receives feedback from Outreach Workers on how to better explain programs. Implements their suggestions when possible. Discusses the feedback with the Program Coordinator when necessary for possible program changes.
